sneezing every morning? normal or ury?

My 4-year-old tabby has been sneezing every morning for a week and his eyes are a little crusty, but he's eating fine. Is this just allergies or should I book an appointment to check for an upper respiratory infection?

I've been trying to keep the routine exactly the same as usual, including his meds for Dolly, but I'm worried the sneezing is a sign something is brewing. He's not lethargic, just a bit snooty when he wakes up. I usually wait a few days to see if it clears up, but the consistency every morning is making me hesitate.

My Ziggy does this every spring. Orange tabbies are sensitive to pollen. I just wipe his eyes with a warm damp cloth and keep the windows closed in the morning. If he's eating, it's probably not a URI yet.

Check spring sniffles vs ury for more on what I do with his feeding schedule to keep his immune system up.

Oh honey, don't stress too much. Smudge gets crusty eyes when the pollen counts are high, too. I usually just monitor it. If he starts sneezing more than just in the morning or if he stops eating, then I call the vet.

For now, keep up with the gentle cleaning. routine eye cleaning for seniors has some good tips on how to do that without stressing the cat out.

I would monitor the discharge. Clear and watery is often allergies. Thick, yellow, or green is infection. My Simba is 18 and gets crusty eyes, but I have a strict cleaning routine.

Since your cat is eating well, I would wait 48 more hours. If the sneezing persists or the crust gets heavier, then book the appointment. Consistency in care is key, so don't change his diet or environment right now.

I'm anxious about this because my Milo has skin issues and I worry about everything. allergy season struggles talks about how eye and skin issues can be linked. If your tabby is scratching or has any redness around the eyes, it might be an allergic reaction rather than a bug.

Thanks everyone. The discharge is clear so far. I'll keep the windows closed and wipe his eyes twice a day. I'm going to keep an eye on his appetite specifically. If he skips a meal, I'm calling the vet immediately.

I did see chronic uri signs to watch in the search but it looked more serious than what he has. Does anyone have a specific threshold for when to stop waiting?

If it's just morning, it's likely dust or pollen. Ziggy's case is documented in spring sniffles vs ury. I found that specific cleaning routine works best for him, details are in that thread. Keep us posted.
