My cat Ginger is 3 and she stopped eating two days ago. I took her to the vet and they gave her fluids and an appetite stimulant. I've been trying warm wet food and chicken broth at home but she just keeps jumping on the counters and ignoring the food?? What specific symptoms did you see during the initial visit that helped you decide if it was serious or just temporary?

Check this thread for the standard vet visit details. They usually look for dehydration and gum color. If the gums are pale, it's more serious. For counter jumping, see this post on managing that behavior, but focus on the eating first.
Short answer: check temp and gums. If pink and wet, likely temporary. Here are some home tricks that worked for my Puff. Warm food smells better. If she still won't eat after 24 hours of home care, go back to the vet. Don't wait.
I was so worried when my Taco stopped eating. It feels like the line between 'just sick' and 'terminal' is blurry. This thread argues it out at length but it's really scary. Did the vet do any blood work for Ginger? That usually tells you if it's kidney or liver issues.
