Lady's kidney numbers trending up

I am so worried about Lady. Her creatinine went from 2.1 to 2.8 in just three months. The vet said it is still stage 2, but the trend is worrying me. She is drinking a lot more lately, and her urine is very pale. I am checking her water bowl every two hours now. Whiskers is doing okay with his arthritis, but Lady's kidneys are my main stressor right now. Has anyone else seen a spike like this and what did you do?

Donna, I understand the anxiety. I keep a spreadsheet for all my cats, including bloodwork dates and values. It helps to see the trend clearly. For Lady, I would recommend documenting her exact water intake in milliliters if possible, not just "a lot more." This data is useful for the next vet visit. Also, check if her blood pressure was measured recently. Kidney issues and hypertension often go hand in hand. You might find useful information in this thread about BP meds that actually work.

yo donna my cat duke had a phosphorus spike last month. vet put him on a renal diet. he hated it at first. we had to mix it with his regular food for like two weeks. check out this thread Getting them to eat the renal food for tips on how to make the switch. also, make sure you are not giving him any treats with high potassium. that can mess up the numbers.

Oh no, Donna! I am so sorry to hear that about Lady. My Felix is only four but he is a real chatterbox, so I know how stressful it is to worry about our little guys! I think you should definitely ask your vet about retesting sooner. I found this thread How often to retest? really helpful when I was trying to figure out how frequently to go in for checks. Keep us posted!

Thank you all. Mary, I will start logging the milliliters. Dave, I am worried about the diet switch, she is very picky. I think I will look at that thread. I am also going to ask about a urine culture because she has been peeing a bit more frequently. Is a dipstick enough or do we need the culture? I read somewhere that Urine culture or just a dipstick? is a common question. I am trying to be proactive but I am getting overwhelmed.
