Tips for keeping a cat still for an echo

hey so my vet found a slightly enlarged heart on duke last week but the echo looked okay for now. they want me to bring him back for monitoring. the problem is duke is a maniac. he vibrates when he sees the stethoscope. how do you guys get your cats to sit still for these kind of checks? i tried the feliway spray but he just looked at it and then zoomed around the room. any tips? Oh no, that sounds stressful! I know how hard it is to keep a cat calm when they are scared. My Rocco is actually super cuddly so he is easy, but I know not all cats are like that. Have you tried wrapping him in a towel? It is called the 'burrito method'. It helps keep his paws in and stops him from scratching or running. I hope it works for Duke!

i feel you. pepper is 1 and she is terrified of the vacuum cleaner, so i imagine the vet noises are even worse. do you think the towel trick would work on a black cat? he seems like he would burn up. also, is it safe to give them anything to help them relax? Is there anything safe I can give my cat to calm down? i dont want to give him something bad.

Please do not give your cat any human medication or random herbs without asking the vet first! That is very important. I am so anxious about Coco's hips and any new health issues. I know how scary it is to have a senior cat with problems, but Duke is young so he should be able to handle it if you stay calm. I have found that talking in a very low, boring voice helps my Peanut settle down. Maybe try that with Duke?

thanks @beth_b96 i will keep the voice boring lol. @roccosmom i will try the burrito thing. i read a thread somewhere where someone said the vet just has to sedate them if they are too wiggly. What do vets do when a cat is too stressed to examine? is that normal? i dont want to have to put him under anesthesia just for a checkup.
