tabby brought a moth to my pillow

My tabby brought me a dead moth last night and placed it gently on my nightstand. She then sat next to it and watched me sleep, ensuring I saw her gift.

I am confused. She is not a kitten, she is an adult. Why does she do this? Is she trying to feed me? I felt a bit gross but also touched? What does it mean?

It is definitely a display of affection or teaching? I have seen this in @donna_w65's gift vs trophy debate thread before. If she is sitting with it, she is showing off her catch. It is not for you to eat, I promise. It is a status symbol. Why does she choose the nightstand specifically though?

Oh my gosh, that is so sweet! My Hazel does this with dead bugs sometimes. I think it is because they are safe there. If she is bringing it to your bed, she trusts you to be near the 'danger' or the 'prize'. Did you check moth hunting indoors? I think it is just a habit from when she was younger.

I worry this means she is bored or lonely? I read loneliness signs in cats and it said hunting is a way to express energy. My Milo is very energetic. Is this a sign she needs more playtime? Or is it just a random behavior? I am scared it might be a health issue, like with Lady's kidneys.

It depends on her age and health history. Since she is a senior, it could be related to senior cat exercise needs or cognitive decline.
