We just adopted a senior tom and he immediately claimed the only sunbeam in the living room. Now he's asleep on the cat tree but keeps twitching like he's chasing mice in his dreams.
Is it normal for a senior cat to twitch and make little chirping sounds while sleeping in the sun?
my Duke does the same thing all the time. its probably just dreaming. he gets twitchy when hes in deep sleep mode. check out Duke's weird sleep twitches if u want to see what i mean. not a big deal imo.
I would be careful. Ollie does that too but sometimes it is just him being restless because he is old. See Ollie keeps moving around at night for the difference. If he is in pain, the twitching looks different. I am not saying yours is in pain, just that you should watch it.
It is very common for cats to vocalize during REM sleep. Dot does little chirps and mews when she is dreaming. I think it is a sign of a healthy brain. You can read more about it in Dot makes little noises while asleep. The sunbeam is likely just a comfort factor, as mentioned in Snowball loves the warm spots.
