Luna screaming at the bedroom door every night

Hi everyone. I am struggling with my calico Luna, who is 7. Every single night she screams at the bedroom door. It is not a meow, it is a long, drawn out wail that wakes me up. I have written up all the details about her vet visit and what we have tried so far in another thread, so I will not repeat it here: Luna's recent vet visit and why she's been noisy.

I am looking specifically for behavior modification techniques. Is there a way to stop this vocalizing at the door? I am at my wit's end.

Oh dear, that sounds exhausting. I am so sorry you are dealing with this. I have seen a similar thread before about door screaming: How to stop a cat from screaming at doors. The advice there was mostly about ignoring the noise completely, which is very hard to do when you are trying to sleep. Have you tried that approach?

Thank you Joan. I did try ignoring it for a few nights, but she just gets louder and more frantic. It feels like she is actually distressed, not just being a nuisance. I am worried it might be pain related, even though the vet said she was healthy. My other cat, Bob, is a new rescue and he is very quiet, so it is just Luna.

Hi Denise. As a retired nurse, I know how much sleep matters. Since Luna is 7, she is entering her senior years. Sometimes vocalizing can be linked to pain we don't see. You might want to check out this thread I wrote about managing arthritis in older cats: Dealing with arthritis in senior cats. Even if the vet didn't diagnose it yet, joint pain can make cats restless and vocal at night. It is worth asking your vet about a trial of pain relief.

Ugh, the 4am thing is real. My Milo sheds like crazy and Nora is always curious, but at least they sleep. I remember reading about this specific issue in a thread about night time activity: 4 a.m. yowling and night time activity. The OP there had a ragdoll doing similar things. Maybe it is a routine issue? Try giving her a really long play session right before bed to exhaust her?

I lost my Whiskers to cancer in 2021, and I remember how the changes in behavior could be the first sign of something wrong. I am not a vet, just a widow who loved her cat. Please keep an eye on her eating and drinking. If the screaming continues despite the behavior tips, please go back to the vet. It is better to be safe. I hope you find some peace soon.
