Dealing with a stubborn kitten

I have a 6-week-old kitten who drinks from a bottle but refuses wet food mashed with water. He is a bottle baby that will not stop nursing. I am worried he is not getting enough nutrition from just the formula. What specific techniques help a kitten that is stubbornly refusing to eat solid food?

try warming the food up a bit. buster was the same way. he liked it cold and would just ignore the bowl. warm it to body temp and see if that helps.

That is a good start, but I have found that texture matters more than temperature for some kittens. I would recommend trying a different brand of wet food that has a smoother consistency. Some kittens reject the chunky texture even if they like the smell. Has anyone tried a specific brand that worked well for a picky eater?

Stop guessing with different brands. If the kitten is 6 weeks and refusing solids, you need to check Kitten Not Gaining Weight to make sure they are actually getting enough calories. Formula is not a complete diet for a kitten this age. If they are not eating, call your vet today. Do not wait another week to see if they 'get the hang of it'.

Oh my god, that is so scary. I am so worried about my Leo. He is also refusing to eat and I don't know what to do. I saw Bottle Baby Won't Stop Nursing but it didn't really answer my question about how to transition him. Is there a specific schedule for weaning?

I think you are right, stever66. I was just hoping for a home remedy. I will call the vet in the morning. Thanks for the warning. I did read Kitten Refuses Wet Food earlier but the advice there was mostly about older kittens. This one is still so young.
